FOR FOUNDATION, SITE WORK & GEOTECHNICAL DRILLING TEAMS

Construction & Geotechnical Rock Drill Bit Refurbishing

Another jobsite deadline should not automatically mean another tooling invoice.

Rock excavation, site investigations and foundation-related drilling can make specialty carbide button tooling costly to replace. If your team uses compatible rock-drilling bits, DG Carbide can review worn tools for potential sharpening or refurbishment before you buy new.

Condition-based decisions

The real problem

Field schedules are unpredictable. Replacement spending can be more deliberate.

Contractors manage job-specific rock conditions, mobilization and equipment availability. A bit pulled from one project may not be ready for another—but purchasing a new bit without examining the existing tool can overlook a viable service option.

Short mobilization windows

Waiting for replacement tooling can complicate project preparation.

One-off cost pressure

A small set of expensive bits may materially affect project margin.

Tooling compatibility

Different holes, rigs and bit designs require case-by-case review.

Make replacement the informed choice

Why construction buyers compare sharpening and replacement

The right decision protects project budgeting while respecting each tool’s condition and suitability for the intended job.

01 / VALUE

Control per-project materials spend

Quote the proposed refurbishment against the exact new bit the project would otherwise require.

02 / VALUE

Keep usable inventory organized

Plan service between jobs and mark which bits have passed review for future use.

03 / VALUE

Avoid overpromising the tool

Assess gauge, body and carbide condition before deciding whether to return a tool to service.

Know the numbers before you order

What could construction & geotechnical save over one year?

The sample calculation illustrates a small contractor fleet with intermittent hard-rock work. It excludes labor, changes in drilling output and any suitability requirements for a specific engineered application.

Illustrative annual upfront cost difference — NOT an industry average
$8,350

Example net difference between buying replacement bits and servicing 25 eligible bits, after the assumed annual transport cost.

Try your own numbers

Enter only confirmed eligible tools. Replace sample prices with your real new-bit and service quotes.

How it works: (25 × [new price − service quote]) − annual freight / fees = potential upfront cost difference.

Tip: a negative result means servicing costs more under your inputs. Call us to evaluate your actual tool condition.

Pricing and savings disclosure: These are hypothetical planning inputs, not DG Carbide service prices, published industry averages, verified customer results, or guaranteed savings. The calculation assumes each serviced bit safely substitutes for one purchase of a comparable new bit and has sufficiently comparable useful life for your intended duty. It does not model output, downtime, operating expense, performance, taxes or different future tool life. Three-year figures simply repeat the one-year inputs three times; they are not a forecast. Eligibility and actual pricing are determined by bit condition and quote.

Simple, condition-led process

DG Carbide is a New York-based rock-drilling tooling service business. We welcome nationwide ship-in inquiries; pickup and delivery options are available by arrangement where practical.

STEP 01

Identify the work

Send bit type, diameter, wear/photos, quantity and intended drilling application.

STEP 02

Request an assessment

DG Carbide discusses available carbide button bit services and any visible limitations.

STEP 03

Plan for the jobsite

Confirm delivery method, deadlines and replacement-versus-service quote before mobilization.

Know your replacement bit price? Include it with photos and your required return date so we can discuss whether refurbishment merits a closer look.

Before you ship tooling

Frequently asked questions

Every drill bit has a different wear history. We will discuss scope and compatibility before assuming your tooling is suitable for service.

Do you provide geotechnical drilling or foundation engineering?

No. DG Carbide provides tooling-service assessments; site drilling, design and engineering services are outside this offering.

Can you guarantee dimensional tolerances after service?

No general tolerance guarantee is made here. Tool compatibility and application-specific requirements must be discussed before any service is confirmed.

Can construction contractors mail bits in?

Yes, request a shipping discussion and approval of service scope before you ship tooling.

What is the difference between sharpening and button replacement?

Sharpening addresses wear to existing carbide button profiles where suitable. Replacement may be discussed for damaged or missing carbide when the bit body supports the work.
